From the sea to the city: a European dynamic for an alternative governance of migration

In order to promote the emergence of an alternative governance of migrations, the Alliance Migrations intervenes with the consortium From the sea to city composed of the organizations Open Arms, Mediterranea, Welcome Europe Network, Inura, Seebrucke and European Alternatives.

By launching a series of online conferences between June and December 2021, this consortium aims to create a European alliance of cities, European representatives, civil society organizations and other international networks. The main ambition of this alliance is to lead a coordinated action to promote new initiatives and strengthen existing ones in the field of European migration policy. Such a network would increase the visibility of welcoming municipalities at EU level, encourage other cities to act and build stronger alliances with civil society actors.

From the Sea to the City and the Migration Alliance intend to pool their resources and expertise to encourage mobilized territories and to rely on their example to defend a local and global governance of migration. Thanks to the experience of the territories, this cooperation will also allow us to denounce the policies of border closure which undermine the rights of people and criminalize citizens in solidarity.

The Migration Alliance intervened in June 2021 within the Conference of Mayors in Palermo to share examples of alternative governance of migration as well as cooperation between cities and civil society.
